Fall '04 GEMS
Welcome to the latest collection of GEMS. This is the sixth issue of Brodart’s resource dedicated to the excellent works of small publishers. What is a GEM? A GEM is, simply put, a great book from and independent press that librarians wouldn’t normally be exposed to. GEMS supports these voices. We think they add a certain texture to a library's collection. We think they enrich the experience of all patrons. Highlighting such books broadens libraries' choices, helping make collections richer.

In this edition of GEMS you will find great new titles for Juv, YA and Adults ranging from Fiction to Non-fiction covering a wide array of subject matter. You will also find great stories on the world of the independent publishers and the authors who create so many great surprises.

Read on and enjoy!

Every issue of GEMS will feature new stories from publishers and authors about life in the world of the independent publishers.

This edition focuses on author Amanda Eyer Ward and her book How to Be Lost. You will also learn about the challenges (and rewards) of self-publishing with our story on Sharon Elizabeth Gambrell and her company Krystamar Publishing.

In order to keep past GEMS available, we maintain archived lists. (We'll try to keep these titles in stock as long as they are in print.)

A GEM is an exceptionally good book from an independent press. If you think you know about an undiscovered GEM, please let us know: gems@brodart.com.
